The school focuses on teaching younger kids all string instruments such as violin, cello, piano and guitar as well as band instruments. Specializing in teaching kids as early as three, we are open for students at all ages.

Numerous researches prove that music lessons can increase brain power we also believe that music study builds confidence and self-esteem and improves concentration. The sooner they begin the more kids can benefit in their lives.

“Let music be an integral part of your child’s life, but don’t make it your mission to mold a musical genius. Child prodigies like Mozart, who wrote his first symphony at age 8, are rare. It’s like having a beautiful Matisse print hanging in a prominent place in your home, You don’t force the child to look at it every day, but it’s there for him or her to enjoy. It’s an enrichment process. The presence of music is what matters. When you expose your child to culture, he acquires a taste for the things in life that will feed his soul. Music does just that.”-Jhoanna Robledo

“Having taught professionally for the past six years, I have experience teaching students of diverse backgrounds and interests.  Not only have I taught music centered around various styles, I also have educated both adults and children spanning a wide range of ages.  At my current position with the Gowanus Music Club, I have the opportunity to work with kids at many different levels of talent, and all of them with different learning styles.  Understanding my students and building a connection with them is the foundation for the work I do as a teacher, and that allows for my lessons to be just as rewarding to my students as they are for myself. ”  -Eric  Mill

WHAT’S NEW AT SUNNYSIDE STRING SCHOOL?

Children’s Orchestra: The large ensemble idea I’ve been writing about will soon become a reality! Open to all young string players (violinists, violists, cellists, and bassists) both inside and outside our school, the orchestra is geared towards more intermediate to advanced players. We will rehearse and perform an engaging, diverse repertoire from Bach to Rock. Participants will benefit from the social and teamwork aspects they’ll develop, and have loads of fun doing it!

The Children’s Orchestra’s first rehearsal will kick off Friday March 1st at 5-5:45pm and will continue likewise every Friday through June 7th. This program will culminate in a concert (date/location TBA). Participation in the orchestra will be determined through audition only. An intermediate or higher ability level is necessary, with an emphasis on sight-reading ability.

To audition: Auditions will be held in February. Please email me to secure an audition date/time.

Fee: Upon successfully passing the audition, the fee will be $50 for the semester. If instrument rentals needed, please inquire.

Guitar Lessons are now available. Please inquire.

We look forward to a fruitful new semester and wish you all a Happy New Year!

Thank you!

Sincerely,

This group class requires a team work with parent and children. All levels are welcome.

Fee: $400 (Spring 2013)- instrument rental excluded. Please inquire for rental options.
The primary goal of the Suzuki program is to enrich the lives of children through a musical experience.  The primary step in this process is for the child to learn to listen.   Children need to “hear” the music before they can begin to appreciate or imitate musical sounds.
